88 students in Florida International University’s Macroeconomics class to receive free textbooks for 2019–2020 academic year

BOSTON, September 12, 2019 — FlatWorld, a digital-first publisher of award-winning college learning materials that are both affordable and high quality, today announced that it is awarding free textbooks to students of Florida International University’s Macroeconomics class. As part of the FlatWorld Textbook Scholarship Program, more than 80 students in total will receive free textbooks from FlatWorld during the fall 2019 and spring 2020 semesters.

“FlatWorld’s mission is laudable. Adopting affordable textbooks at a fraction of the cost of market leaders, written by world-renowned scholars, seems like a no-brainer," said Dr. Prasad Bidarkota, Economics professor at Florida International University. "Additionally, winning the FlatWorld scholarship that provides free textbooks to students, especially those attending my institution, makes the transition to a new textbook so much more worthwhile. The simplicity and design of the FlatWorld website and FlatWorld Homework interface evokes enthusiasm to be so much more engaged with the course.”

Professor Bidarkota’s class will be using FlatWorld’s Principles of Macroeconomics textbook, written by John B. Taylor and Akila Weerapana. Taylor and Weerapana present modern economics in a form that’s intuitive, relevant, and memorable to learners with no prior exposure to the subject. FlatWorld includes a range of supplements with Principles of Macroeconomics at no additional cost, including FlatWorld Homework, an instructor manual, PowerPoint lecture notes, test banks, and a test generator.

“In reading through the long list of applications for the first annual FlatWorld Textbook Scholarship, it reinforced to us just how many students across the U.S. still struggle to pay for textbooks, said Alastair Adam, co-CEO of FlatWorld. As part of our mission to make textbooks affordable, we intend to expand the FlatWorld Scholarship Program and to give more free textbooks to students. We’ll also continue to offer all of our high-quality learning materials at the most affordable prices.”

Any faculty teaching at a U.S. institution are eligible to apply for the FlatWorld Textbook Scholarship, whether the professor is currently using a FlatWorld textbook or simply considering adopting a FlatWorld textbook for the first time. Consistent with our aim of making use of a FlatWorld textbook as easy as possible for faculty, the application is short and straightforward to complete. FlatWorld launched the Textbook Scholarship in 2019, and applications for the FlatWorld 2020 Textbook Scholarship will open in April 2020.
